A Message from the Reny Family

Stepping Strong Teammates,

It has been such an incredible journey getting to the starting line of the 126th Boston Marathon and we are so proud of you. You have worked tirelessly and pounded the pavement to complete 15 long runs and 14 hill runs on John Furey’s training schedule and now the big day is almost here! On one hand it feels like it has taken a long time to get to this moment, and on the other hand, it feels like how it could be here already. We are truly in awe of the dedication that each of you has shown to training and fundraising for a cause that means so much to us personally, and is so relevant in today’s tumultuous world.

This week leading up the marathon is always very reflective for our family, but knowing we get to cheer you on as you run the course together with a unified purpose to transform trauma care for others, and to prove that good things can happen when people come together, bolsters and inspires us. Remembering that together we are turning a tragedy into hope will be a great motivation as you hit the hills of Newton on Monday.

We wanted to share with you the 2021-22 Stepping Strong Annual Report. This is a recap of all that we have accomplished over the past year at The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation, and there is so much to be proud of. The depth of our gratitude is beyond words, and, as you will see, we are making great strides to change the lives of trauma patients because of you, your supporters, and everyone who has become part of the Stepping Strong family. We hope you share this with your networks to inspire them and help you cross your fundraising finish line!

Over marathon weekend, we are looking forward to getting together with locals, meeting out-of-towners, and giving some long-awaited hugs and high-fives. Gillian is especially excited to share her gratitude with each of you at the Pep Rally and cheering tent in Newton where we will all be gathered. Thank you again for being a part of our Stepping Strong family.

With admiration and appreciation,

Audrey, Steven, Danielle, Kyle and Gillian

P.S. – Make sure to tell your family and friends about the Stepping Strong fundraising taking place on Marathon Monday at The Beehive and Cosmina restaurants! Both are convenient, great spots for your post marathon meal! Go to www.beehiveboston.com or www.cosmicaboston.com to make a reservation!

We know you’re excited but PLEASE…

Do not post a photo of your bib and/or bib number for the 126th Boston Marathon on any social media! We want to protect you from having your number duplicated, which sadly people do. If someone duplicates your bib and runs with it, you and that individual will be disqualified and not able to participate in future Boston Marathon’s.

If you have any questions, please contact marathonteam@bwh.harvard.edu.

From start to finish,

Ali and Alexa

IMPORTANT UPDATE: 3/26 Training Run Cancelled

As the B.A.A. prepares for the 126th Boston Marathon, they have instructed all charity partners NOT to run on the Boston Marathon course the weekend of March 26th.  As a result, the Brigham Stepping Strong Marathon Team long run scheduled for March 26 has been cancelled. Instead, Coach Furey has modified the training schedule for an out and back run from Joint Ventures on March 19 which will be the longest training run this season.

The B.A.A. shared with charity team organizers that the marathon requires many partners – local municipalities, public safety departments, and hospitals – all of whom are over-worked and under-staffed as they continue to respond to the pandemic and that these partners have asked the B.A.A. to suspend any support of organized long runs on March 26th.  We must comply with this request as the B.A.A. has clearly stated that any charity teams/runners who do not follow these instructions will not be allowed to participate in future Boston Marathons.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and compliance.

From start to finish,

Ali, Alexa and Caroline

A message from Audrey and Steven Reny: Three month countdown + exciting announcement!

Dear Stepping Strong Marathon team,

We are officially three months away from the 126th Boston Marathon! You must be getting excited and feeling confident and determined as your training mileage increases each week, we are so proud of you!

When we met at the first team meeting, Steven and I promised you that we would be there with you every step of the way through race day. Our team is filled with so many inspiring individuals and stories that brought you into our orbit and we couldn’t be more grateful. This year, while we will not physically be running 26.2 miles with you from Hopkinton to Boston, we are so pleased to announce that our family will be making a $100,000 donation to the 2022 Stepping Strong Marathon Team in honor of you and all of your incredible efforts to support trauma research and care! We are so grateful to each of you, not only for your commitment to running the race, but also to fundraising on behalf of the Stepping Strong Center.

There is so much important and impactful work being done at the Stepping Strong Center, and it is our honor to provide additional funding that will continue to propel the programs forward. We look forward to sharing more details about the center and individuals who benefit from its work at our virtual team meeting on Thursday, February 10 at 6pm EST.

Thank you once again for joining us on this mission and for being a voice of change for trauma survivors like our precious Gillian.

With heartfelt gratitude,

Audrey, Steven, Danielle, Kyle and Gillian
